A script that always installs the latest version of LibreOffice, turned into a Xesta action so it can be deployed across the whole classroom in one go.
To keep LibreOffice always up to date in the classroom without hunting for the version number by hand, I put together a simple script: it detects the latest stable version, removes the previous install, and installs the new one, including the Galician interface and help language packs.
Download the script
You can download it directly and run it as root on a machine:
⬇ Download instalar_libreoffice.sh
Deploying it across the classroom with Xesta
So I wouldn’t have to repeat it machine by machine, I described this same script to Xesta and it gave me back a Salt state that places it on every machine and runs it automatically:
⬇ Download the Salt code (.sls)
⚠️ Test it on a single machine before launching it across the whole classroom, and only reinstall LibreOffice when no students are working on it.
As always, what changes isn’t the program, it’s not having to repeat the install machine by machine every time a new version comes out.
